Louisians win at the 35th National Statistics Month contests

Four exceptional members of Saint Louis College—students Joshua Lian R. Cawilan, Carlos Miguel D. Dela Cruz, and Vhianca Flor Cuaresma, and high school faculty member Ms. Mary Margarette L. Amiller—won at the 35th National Statistics Month Celebration contests organized by the Provincial Government of La Union through the Provincial Statistics Committee this October at the La Union Convention Center.

This year’s theme, “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation,” highlighted the increasing importance of digitalization in shaping the country’s future. True to the theme, the participants gave their best as they competed in various categories.

Joshua Lian R. Cawilan (Grade 12 STEM), mentored by Ms. Emetess F. Catbagan, won 1st runner-up in the Digital Poster Slogan Making contest for the Secondary Level. In the tertiary level of the same competition, Carlos Miguel Dela Cruz (BSIT-3), coached by Mrs. Marie Ann Fontanilla, emerged as the 2nd runner-up. Both Cawilan’s and Dela Cruz’s digital artworks effectively combined visuals and statistical data to convey a powerful message.

Vhianca Flor Cuaresma (BSED-3), coached by Ms. Shari Maro R. Raposas, clinched the championship in the Essay Writing Contest for the Tertiary Level. Cuaresma’s compelling essay advanced to the regional level, where she continued to excel, winning 2nd runner-up.
Not to be outdone, Ms. Mary Margarette L. Amiller, a dedicated Grade 11 HUMSS teacher, also claimed the championship in the Employee Category for Essay Writing. Her winning piece carried her to the regional level, where she placed 2nd runner-up.

Their victories bring pride to the entire SLC community and reaffirm our reputation as a leading institution that consistently produces individuals ready to contribute to the greater good of society.
