Saint Louis College warmly welcomed the family of the late Fr. Alfred Spincemaille, CICM, its first President. Mr. Peter Verstraete, nephew of Fr. Alfred, together with his wife Mrs. Sophie Rommel and their daughter Ms. Charlotte Verstraete, traveled from Belgium to honor his memory and retrace his legacy at SLC on September 29, 2025.
The visitors first paid a courtesy call to Rev. Fr. Roderick G. Villamar, CICM, PhD, College President, who welcomed them together with the members of the Executive Committee: Dr. Lea L. De Guzman, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Mrs. Helen R. Tugade, Vice President for Administration; and Mrs. Rowena Kathleen H. Abalos, OIC-Vice President for Finance. They were then given a school tour by the College Information and Marketing Office headed by Mrs. Viviene Aisha Gugol-Baker.
During their visit, the family fondly shared stories of Fr. Alfred—their treasured memories, his unique personality, and the lasting impact he had on their lives. Their journey to SLC was not only a tracing of footsteps but also a heartfelt tribute to a missionary who poured his life into the service of God and the community.
Fr. Alfred dedicated much of his priestly life to mission in the Philippines, serving in various CICM schools and offices. In 1964, the Diocese of San Fernando entrusted the ownership and management of Father Burgos College to the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM), and he was appointed as the first Rector. Three years later, the institution was renamed Saint Louis College. He passed away in November 2014, leaving behind a legacy of service, leadership, and missionary zeal.
Their visit reminded the Louisian community of its deep missionary roots and the legacy of Fr. Alfred that continues to inspire generations. SLC remains grateful for his pioneering spirit, which has shaped the institution into the vibrant center of learning it is today.
