SLC-SFLU explores partnership with UMM

With the aim to expand partnership with higher education institutions from the neighboring countries of the Philippines, SLC-SFLU, through the Global Affairs Office, hosted a virtual initiation meeting with UniversitasMuhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Indonesia, today, November 5, 2024. The purpose of the meeting is to identify possible areas of partnership that will involve faculty and students of both institutions.

SLC-SFLU was represented by the Global Affairs Officer, Dr. Leo Esteene L. Galap; the academic deans, namely Dr. Caroline Pajimola, Academic of the College of Business and Accountancy; Dr. Marilou Mondina, of the College of Arts, Sciences, Technology, and Education; Engr. Melvin Esguerra of the College of Engineering and Architecture; and Dr. Jose Pangngay of the School of Advanced Studies. The meeting was also attended by the Program Heads, namely Marie Ann Fontanilla of Information Technology and Engr. Reynald Lucero of Civil Engineering. On the other hand, UMM was represented by Dr. Muhammad Salis Yuniardi, Vice Rector; Dr. Machmud Effendy, Vice Dean Faculty of Engineering; Mr. Galih Wasis Wicaksono, Head of Informatics Department; Ms. Denar Regata Akbi and Hardianto Wibowo, the secretaries of the Informatics Department; Ms. Evi Dwi Wahyuni of the International Program; and lecturers from Informatics and Civil Engineering.

During the discussion, Mr. Galih shared a presentation relative to programs where SLC-SFLU and UMM can work on to internationalize the academic cluster of both institutions, while Dr. Salis shared that SLC-SFLU and UMM can specifically collaborate on research and faculty and student mobility. Both institutions concur that the initial venture will be a Collaborative Online International Learning Program as a good activity to jumpstart the partnership.

As a highlight, the meeting ended with an agreement that a formal and mutually beneficial partnership will be forged.
