Saint Louis College formally welcomed the new academic year with the celebration of the Mass of the Holy Spirit today, September 2, bringing the SLC community together in prayer and thanksgiving as it begins another year of learning, service, and mission.
Rev. Fr. Roderick G. Villamar, CICM, PhD, presided over the Eucharistic celebration, gathering members of the SLC community in prayer and seeking the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit for the academic year ahead.
During the homily, Fr. Erik emphasized seeking the gifts of the Holy Spirit through four prayers: to be led into truth, to have our eyes opened, to be sent, and to be granted wisdom. These prayers remind the community to remain grounded in truth, compassion, and wisdom as we discern our responsibilities, respond to the needs of others, and make choices for the welfare of our community.
SLC employees also renewed their commitment to the institution’s mission and values through the Renewal of Commitment, reaffirming their dedication to service and a Christ-centered community. Students who will undergo their internship were likewise blessed as they prepare to bring their learning into their respective workplaces.
The Mass of the Holy Spirit marks more than the beginning of another academic year—it is a reminder of SLC’s continued reliance on God’s wisdom and grace. As the community moves forward, may the Holy Spirit grant everyone the gifts of wisdom, understanding, courage, and fortitude to fulfill their roles with faith, humility, and a steadfast commitment to the mission of the institution.
