The SLC Samtoy Dance Troupe, under the direction of Mr. Rufo Nino L. Maltu Jr., secured a top 10 finish out of 40 participating dance groups across the country in the Contemporary Dance Category of SAYAW PINOY 2024: The NCAA National Dance Competition, held on September 27, 2024, at the Metropolitan Theater.
Organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through the National Committee on Dance (NCD), this event aims to promote dance in various forms, raise consciousness on the value of artistic excellence, and provide opportunities for artists to showcase their potential.
Samtoy presented “SAMA MADILAUT,” a contemporary piece choreographed by Mr. Maltu, that explores the rich and complex lives of the Badjao tribe in the Philippines, celebrating their resiliency, while challenging stereotypes and fostering empathy toward their struggles and stories.
