Senior High School students from Saint Louis College (SLC) placed 11th place and 28th place at the National Civil Engineering Summit (NCES) held at the University of the Philippines Diliman on September 14.
Grade 12 students were divided into two competitive teams.
Team A, consisting of Joshua Lian R. Cawilan, Joshua Miguel C. Osero, and Euspeh Angelo D. Cavaneyro, achieved the 28th place.
“Despite our confidence in the bridge design, a critical mistake on the competition day led to our 28th place finish. We worked tirelessly to improve the design but overlooked a crucial detail, impacting our performance. Although we had hoped for a top position, we are grateful for the opportunity to compete at UP and proud of our achievements,” a member said in an interview.
Team B, including Eiffel F. Casem, Jazzymars C. Tadifa, and Zandra Lea C. Desierto, excelled and secured the 11th place.
One contestant also said, “Participating in the national competition was a mix of nervousness and excitement. While we didn’t secure a place or award, the experience provided valuable lessons for our future endeavors, enriching our growth and learning.”
Moreover, Engr. Ron Jake V. Uy shared his knowledge and coached the students during their training sessions.
Additionally, Ms. Maricar G. Rimando was their teacher, providing support and guidance throughout their journey in the competition.
The Bridge Building Competition (BBC) is an event hosted within the NCES, where students have the opportunity to present their creativity and engineering skills.
