From Manuscript to Mission: CICM HEIs Strengthen Research through Collaboration

A vibrant culture of scholarship takes center stage as the 2-Day Writing Retreat on Collaborative Research and Publication unfolds on 2–3 March 2026 at the Saint Louis University, Baguio City.

This initiative is a joint effort of the Research Directors of the four CICM Higher Education Institutions: Saint Louis University, Saint Mary’s University, Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union, and University of Saint Louis – Tuguegarao. United by a shared mission, the institutions come together to strengthen their research network and institutional support capacity.

Throughout the retreat, faculty members and research coordinators actively refine existing drafts into manuscripts ready for journal submission. The focus is clear: move from intention to publication. Structured writing sessions provide protected time for deep work, while practical guidance ensures each paper advances toward submission. Mr. Jerome B. Biares, Ms. Regine O. Ocampo, Ms. Allyssa Joy B. Macato, Mr. Smith D. Lagdaan, Ms. Judy Ann T. Sibayan, and the BEdS Research Coordinator, Ms. Shekalaine C. Agurin, are the delegates from SLC to participate in this collaborative activity.

Mentorship plays a vital role. Experienced researchers walk alongside new faculty members, fostering professional growth and building confidence in navigating the publication process. The retreat also reinforces strategic alignment—strengthening the link between instruction and research to enhance accreditation efforts and overall institutional performance.

Collaboration thrives in the process. Participants explore joint authorship opportunities and benchmark realistic publication targets inspired by other Catholic universities, cultivating a culture of shared accountability and collective achievement.

Guiding the workshop is Dr. Rito V. Baring of De La Salle University’s Department of Theology. A seasoned facilitator with an extensive record of local and international publications, Dr. Baring brings both expertise and experience, helping institutions meaningfully advance their scholarly output.

More than a workshop, the retreat becomes a concrete step toward building a stronger, more collaborative, and mission-driven research community.
