Innovation knows no age and Saint Louis College has once again proven this as a team of young Louisian researchers from the Basic Education Schools – High School Department secured a place among the Top 10 Finalists in the DOST-TAPI 2025 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (ClusteRICE) in Northern Luzon. The event was held on October 14–15, 2025, at the Philippine Science High School Cagayan Campus in Nueva Vizcaya.
The study, titled “PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and Chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) Eggshells as Polycarbonate Sheets,” was developed by students Shera Marcene A. De la Peña, Angelyn Joy S. Navarro, Mikaella Jhenn S. Ninobla, and Joshuah Donn D. Consilacion, under the mentorship of Mr. Allen Christian S. Borja.
Through their innovative approach, the team explored sustainable alternatives for polycarbonate production by utilizing recycled plastic bottles and chicken eggshells—an idea that embodies both environmental consciousness and scientific ingenuity. Their project stood out among numerous entries for its creativity, feasibility, and real-world impact.
“This recognition is more than just a win,” shared Mr. Borja. “It’s proof that our students’ curiosity and determination can create meaningful solutions for a better world.”
The Science Department of the Basic Education Schools expressed immense pride in this milestone, recognizing it as a reflection of Saint Louis College’s commitment to nurturing a culture of scientific excellence and innovation.
The team also extended their gratitude to the SLC Administration, the Basic Education Schools Community, the Science Probers’ Club, and the Family Council for their steadfast support.
With this remarkable achievement, Saint Louis College continues to shine as a cradle of young innovators—proving that even in high school, Louisian minds are already making a mark in the field of science and technology.
