Graduate Seminar on Research Ethics highlights Epistemic Responsibility and Ethical Foundations

On October 18, 2025, the combined Thesis and Dissertation Classes held a Graduate Seminar on Research Ethics at the SLC Bœck Mission Library, aimed at deepening graduate students’ understanding of the philosophical and institutional underpinnings of research ethics.

The seminar featured a lecture delivered by Dr. Leilani O. Sanidad, Chairperson of the SLC Research Ethics Committee, and Mr. Niño Randy C. Flores, the Head of Research Management Office. Their presentation focused on the philosophical foundations of research ethics, with particular emphasis on the operational and procedural dimensions of ethical research practices. Additionally, the lecture underscored the critical role of epistemic responsibility—the obligation of researchers to ensure the credibility, transparency, and integrity of the knowledge they produce—as a guiding principle in academic inquiry.

This academic activity is part of an ongoing initiative by the Thesis and Dissertation professors—Dr. Jose J. Pangngay, Dr. Marilyn Veronica E. Torcedo, and Mr. Niño Randy C. Flores—to enhance graduate students’ ethical awareness and equip them with the necessary tools to navigate complex ethical dilemmas in their research undertakings. Through engagements such as this seminar, SLC continues to affirm its commitment to fostering a research culture grounded in ethical rigor, research integrity, and institutional accountability.
