SLC holds blessing of the newly-constructed walkway in the High School Department

July 21, 2020

The newly-constructed walkway of the High School department was blessed on July 12, 2020. Rev. Fr. Ramon R. Caluza, CICM, the main presider of the ceremony, was joined by Rev. Fr. Fernold M. Denna, CICM, School Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Valentin M. Narcise, CICM, Residence Rector, Mr. Danilo D. Romero, BEdS Principal, Mrs. Marife E. Rimando, Head of the Campus Ministry,  Ms. Maricar G. Rimando, Assistant to the Principal for Student Affairs (Junior High School), and the High School Family Council Officers and some members.

Through this project, Saint Louis College (SLC) assures the parents and the students that amidst the pandemic, the school will continually provide quality services to its students. The said walkway will serve as an activity or recreational area for the students.

The purpose of the walkway is “to decongest the canteen and to serve as an area for the students to take their lunch,” Mr. Danilo Romero said.

“What I have observed when I first went there was the limited space for children to do their school activities,” Engr. Dominador Javier, Chairman of the Junior High School Family Council said.  “That’s why we came up with an idea that could benefit the students,” he added.

Devoted to its goal in providing the students a service that is conducive and accessible, the creation of this project is one of the many actions that SLC undertook in order to address the students’ demands.

“As an officer, I believe that [the parents] have to help [one another] for the sake of our children and grandchildren,” Javier said.

Aside from the newly-constructed walkway, Engr. Javier also lodged a short-term and a long-term plan for the school. He proposed on revamping the cafeteria by adding another story as a long-term solution and suggested on adding wash basins in the toilets for hygienic purposes as a short-term solution.

Since January this year, the Office of the President had commissioned a team of four Civil Engineering students to make a study of the Canteen Services of the whole campus and make recommendations. Recently, the College President suggested the construction of a walkway that will connect the newly- constructed walkway and the garden at the back of the Junior High School building.

The room right at the back of St. Aloysius Gonzaga’s statue will be divided into two sections, on the left will be an office and on the right will be the corridor leading to the garden.

It is but fitting to mention that Fr. Valentin Narcise, CICM, the “missionary priest with a green thumb” initiated the revival and rehabilitation of the green spaces of the campus. The present College President considers this as a priority policy: to create an environmentally healthy and friendly “college within a garden”. When the road widening project in front of SLC was finished, SLC revived the sidewalk garden right in front of the whole stretch from the North Gate to the South Gate. Many have commented that this sidewalk garden is really “very pleasing to the eye”!

School gardens, according to Scoil Bhride, help the students to learn patience, cooperation, teamwork and social skills, to gain self-confidence, to improve scores and avoid graffiti and vandalism activities.

All members of administration, employees, learners, teachers, parents, guardians and visitors are enjoined to keep the campus CLEAN and GREEN ALWAYS!
